Countdown app for iPhone
Count down to what matters. Live multi-day moments day by day. When it's over, Near writes a personal memory capsule with on-device AI — your photos, your feelings, your story.
Near runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's latest on-device AI, so it needs iOS 26. Not there yet? I'll let you know when you can get it →
Your next moment could be away.
Tokyo. 12 days. You can already feel the airport.
Mom's 61st. Tomorrow. You've had the card for two weeks.
21 days until Pamela. You keep almost texting her.
You booked the flights in January.
You told everyone at dinner.
You checked the weather twice today.
12 days.
Three years from now, you won't remember checking the weather in Shibuya. Near will.
It holds the anticipation. It lives the experience with you. And when the moment passes, it writes the memory so you never lose what it felt like.
How it works
Type it like you'd tell a friend. Near uses on-device intelligence to understand dates, people, and places from the way you actually talk.
Widgets on your home screen. Gentle notifications that build excitement. For multi-day moments, Near tracks your experience day by day — capture photos, record how you feel, live the countdown in real time. When the moment is hours away, a live countdown appears in your Dynamic Island.
When the moment passes, Near writes a quiet, personal recap using on-device AI. Your photos, your emotional context, your story — preserved privately, permanently, on your device. A year later, a gentle "On This Day" notification brings you right back.

The loop
Every countdown has three acts: the waiting, the living, and the remembering. Near is there for all of them.
Anticipation builds. Smart notifications keep the excitement alive. Widgets count down with you.
You're living it. Capture photos day by day. Track how it feels. Near stays with you through the whole experience.
"Tokyo is part of your story now. The countdown gave way to footsteps."
Photos, context, an AI-written recap. A quiet place to revisit what mattered.
The payoff
Every countdown ends. But the feeling doesn't have to fade. When your moment passes, on-device AI quietly writes a recap of what it meant — just for you.
June 8 – June 21, 2026
Always near
Small, medium, and large widgets. Glance at what's coming up without opening the app.
See your most important countdown the instant you pick up your phone. Always there, never intrusive.
When the moment is almost here, a live countdown appears in your Dynamic Island. Feel it ticking.
A week out. The night before. The morning of. And a year later: "On this day, you were counting down to Tokyo." Warm reminders that build anticipation and keep memories alive.
12 moment types
Each type carries its own emotional tone, color, and personality.
Privacy
Near is built on a simple belief: your personal moments are nobody else's business.
All parsing, recaps, and emotional context run locally on your iPhone using Apple's Foundation Models. Your words never touch a server.
Your moments live in your personal iCloud container. Nobody sees them, touches them, or has access to them. Not even me. Cross-device, completely private.
No analytics. No advertising identifiers. No third-party SDKs. Near doesn't even have a backend. There is nothing to collect.
What people are saying
"Setup was the thing. I typed my mom's 70th like a text message and it just filled everything in. That was the moment I got it."
"The recap it wrote after my Portugal trip caught something I'd already started to forget, the nervous-excited part before I left. Didn't expect a countdown app to do that."
"I'm the person who remembers a friend's birthday the day after. Having it on my lock screen every morning has genuinely fixed that for me."
Why Near
I built Near because I wanted to remember what it felt like to wait for the things I cared about. The trip I couldn't stop thinking about. The birthday I planned for weeks. The person I hadn't seen in too long. Every countdown app I tried just showed a number. None of them captured the feeling.
So I built one that does. No investors. No team. No data collection. No ads. Just one person who believes the way you wait for something matters as much as the thing itself.

The difference
Most countdown apps show you a number. Near gives you the whole experience.
Questions
Most countdown apps stop at the number. Near is the only app that tracks your emotional journey before, during, and after a moment. Multi-day experiences get day-by-day attention. And when the moment passes, on-device AI writes a personal memory capsule from your photos and emotional context. No other countdown app does this.
When a moment's date passes, Near uses Apple Foundation Models (on-device AI) to write a quiet, personal recap of your experience. It captures the emotional arc of your countdown — how excited you were, how the anticipation built, what photos you took — and preserves it as a memory you can revisit anytime. Think of it as a private journal entry the app writes for you.
Some moments are not a single date — they are an experience. A 14-day trip to Tokyo. A 3-day wedding weekend. Near tracks these day by day: "Day 3 of 14." You can capture photos each day, record how you feel, and when it's over, the memory capsule captures the whole arc, not just the start date.
Completely. Near has no backend server. No analytics. No advertising identifiers. No third-party SDKs. All AI processing runs locally on your iPhone using Apple Foundation Models. Your moments sync privately through your personal iCloud container — nobody can see them, including us.
No account required. Near works fully without signing in. Sign in with Apple is an optional feature in Settings that stores your name and email on your device only (never transmitted) and prepares for future shared features. If you ever want to remove it, Settings > Delete Account permanently clears your profile from your device. Your moments are separate and untouched.
Nothing disappears. Your existing moments, photos, and memory capsules stay exactly where they are. You just cannot create more than 3 active countdowns without Near+. All your memories are permanent.
Near uses Apple Foundation Models for natural language parsing and memory recap generation. These on-device AI capabilities require iOS 26. This is what allows Near to understand "Trip to Tokyo June 8" without sending your words to any server.
Yes. All core features work without an internet connection. Countdowns tick, widgets update, notifications fire, and you can create moments and add photos. iCloud sync happens in the background when you are connected, but the app never depends on it.
