Near is built on a simple principle: your personal moments are nobody's business but yours. This policy explains exactly what Near does and does not do with your data.
When you use Near, you create moments — countdowns to events that matter to you. Each moment may include:
All of this data is stored on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, in your private iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit framework. We do not operate servers. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
Near offers an optional Sign in with Apple button in Settings. You do not need to sign in to use Near — every feature works without it. If you choose to sign in, Near stores the following on your device only:
This information is stored in your device's local preferences (UserDefaults). It is never transmitted to us, to any server, or to any third party. It is used only to personalize Settings and to prepare for future features like named participants in shared countdowns.
You can sign out at any time, or permanently delete your Near account from Settings > Delete Account. Deleting your account removes your name, email, and Apple user identifier from your device. Your moments are separate from this account and are not affected by deletion.
Near does not transmit, share, or sell any data. Specifically, Near does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following on any server:
Near contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no advertising frameworks. The only personal information Near ever has access to is what you optionally provide through Sign in with Apple, and that information never leaves your device.
Near integrates only with Apple's first-party services:
Near does not integrate with any other third-party services, SDKs, or APIs.
Near uses Apple's Foundation Models framework to generate memory recaps and assist with natural language understanding. All AI processing happens entirely on your device. No moment data, photos, or personal content is transmitted anywhere for AI processing.
You are in complete control of your data. All moments, photos, and memory capsules can be deleted directly from within the app. When you delete a moment, it is removed from your device and from your iCloud account. We have no ability to retain or recover your data because we never have access to it in the first place.
If you used Sign in with Apple, you can permanently delete your Near account from Settings > Delete Account. This removes your stored profile (name, email, Apple user identifier) from your device.
If you delete the Near app, all local data is removed with it. iCloud data can be managed through your device's iCloud storage settings.
Near is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since Near does not collect personal information from any user, this concern is inherently addressed by our architecture.
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Near after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
